The FOCUS public website is now on-line at http://www.focus-fp7.eu. FOCUS is a 4.7-million Euros European project of the Seventh Framework Programme, partly funded by the European Commission and coordinated by CNIC (Centro Nacional de Investigaciones Cardiovasculares Carlos III). FOCUS brings together research institutes, clinicians, pharmaceutical company, SMEs and scientific organisations across Europe and Latin America.

The main objective of FOCUS is to identify factors that determine inadequate cardiovascular prevention and to test an FDC (fixed-dose combination) pill for secondary cardiovascular prevention.

By means of clinical trials, FOCUS will analyse data collected from 40 sites in Europe and 40 sites in three middle-income developing countries. FOCUS aims to establish a proof of concept of FDC efficacy for secondary CVD (cardiovascular diseases) prevention, and a better understanding of socio-economic factors that influence access and adherence to CVD treatment.
